Would be nice if I could automate document creatrion from XPress Tags files and automate exporting XPress Tags as well.

I would investigate XTags if I were you, I don't know what I would do without it! Worth every penny.

With XTags the extension? We have a about 10 year old version of Xtags laying about here somewhere I think :-p

Basically all I want to do is take a .xtg file produced by another extension (Kytek's _amazing_ autopage) and import it into a newly created Quark document. No way to do that without XTags extension?

Well...
The import process can be scripted but "Vanilla" Quark won't be able to read image tags and so forth from your text files. Only paragraph and character style sheets will get processed. Then again, that might be enough for your needs.

Otherwise you would have to write a script that will parse all that info from your text files and spoon feed it to a new Quark document. By the time such a script is debugged you (and you boss) would realised you should have gotten the Xtension to start with.

All I really need is the paragraph information--I'm scripting a process where we take a Quark file with footnotes from Autopage (again, an excellent extension!) flatten it, do so more modifications, and export as RTF.

At this point I don't really care abouit images.

So it is possible to script the "Get Text" dialog in Quark? What I specifically want to script is taking a directory full of .xtg files, import them into Quark new documents, and then "Save Text" as RTF / MSword 4 / MSWord whatever for each document.

p.s. I just installed a version of the XTags extension I found--1.2 from 1994!!
