Exporting XML - Quark xTension Development information

I've looked around, found Atomik's product, but their prices are extremly high.

I'm a developer, who's currently stuck trying to perform a content mgr's job, so in this particular case, I'm more ablely to write a tool (or in this case an xTension) more so than the average designer.

So my question is: Where do I begin on wanting to write my own xTension. I've found nothing on the quark site. I'd be more than happy to share this application via opensource on sourceforge.

I'm just looking to dump these qxd files to XML - I'd be more than happy to have the style sheets be the element names etc.

Any ideas would be very helpful, and if quark is listening - I'd do this for free and share the information - I just need to get started on the development aspect of it.

    thanks

Exporting XML - Quark xTension Development information

    Hi Fruber,

I hope the mods don't mind me chipping in here (it doesn't seem to be against the forum rules - my appologies if this isn't the case), but I just wanted to ask if you'd looked at Atomik Xport Personal Edition ( http://www.easypress.com/products/xportpe/ ), which is significantly cheaper than the Atomik Xport Standard and Developer editions, and has a batch process function which could allow you to dump a large number of QuarkXPress files into XML with pretty close to no configuration required (we like to call it 'one click XML'). It runs on Windows and Mac versions 4.1, 5, and 6 (including 6.5), and sounds like it could be just the thing for you - and would be a lot cheaper than getting a custom development done, it's also (I believe, unless the Quark prices have changed recently) cheaper than applying for the XT developer programme too.

If you've not already found an alternative, please give us a call on +44 (0) 20 7608 6690, and we can tell you a bit more about the software and solutions we can provide, which are already in use within many companies with content management workflows. . Also, we do take on custom XML-oriented development work (as XML is the company's main strength), so we'd be happy to discuss your requirements to see if we can find a solution for you.

However, if you do decide to do your own development you can get all the relevant information and application forms from here: http://www.quark.com/partners/xtdevelopers/desktop/requirements.html.

    Regards,

    Andy
