    XSL processing

    Wondering if anyone can help.

I just started using Quark 6.5 on the MAC for about a week; have been using Quark for PC previously.

I have a file that is basically an index (i.e., topic & page number(s)) in XML format with a DTD and XSL file to control style formatting. On the PC side, I would make changes (add page numbers to the XML file in XMLPad then open the file in Internet Explorer in order to display only those topics with page numbers (some topics have more than one number and others have none, so I only want to display those topics with numbers; therefore, the XSL file).

Now with Quark 6.5 and XML Xtension, I have been able to import the XML file, but it imports all data (which I don't want). Is there a way for Quark to use the XSL file to process the XML file in order to import only those topics with page numbers? Alternatively, does Quark allow me to specify which data to import?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Congratulations on getting your XML to import. I'm still working on it.

There doesn't seem to be a mention of XSL in Quark's XML manual. Probably means Quark can't read your XSL (I don't think Quark CAN read XSL but if anyone can prove otherwise please correct me).

What does Quark's customer support say? And. did you attempt it on PC XPress? If so what happened?

Quark does not process XSL files, and I don't think it supports any query rules at import time. The solution is to get one of a number of free or paid XSLT processors that can accept input of XML file and XSL stylesheet and output a transformed XML file containing the desired data set. I do this some on OS X, but I mostly use an AppleScript addition from Late Night Software that wouldn't help you on Windows. (http://www.latenightsw.com/freeware/XSLTTools/index.html)

I finally gave up and had a coworker create a database in Lotus Notes that allows me to edit the file, then export as an XML file with only the wanted data.
