This is just plain annoying. I have finally solved most of my font issues with Quark 6 and OS X.3... but then I went on vacation, and now this new weird thing is happening. There are fonts listed in my font menu that are not installed anywhere in my system. I even tried searching for that font with Sherlock and deleting all the copies of the font on my Mac, but they are STILL listed in the Quark font menu! Why? Why? Why? Any ideas?

Try to locate font location through usase option. With QuarkXPress running go to utility menu/usage/font and click on more information option. i think, you may locate your font location.

have you tried cleaning your font cache?

In addition of this take a look of font caches location on panther:

System Domain:

/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS.System.fcache
/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATSServer.FODB_System
/System/Library/Caches/fontTablesAnnex

Local Domain:

/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/501/Classic.fcache
/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/501/Local.fcache
/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/User.fcache
/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/Classic.fodb
/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/Local.fodb
/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/User.fodb
/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/FondResourceCache

May be this resolve........

What ever you do, DO NOT TOUCH or DELETE any of the fonts located in the System >Library>Font folder.

Well darn it -- none of these suggestions worked; oh well.

I did want to add that actually I have deleted every single font out of every single Library/Font folder on my computer, in order to restore order to the Font Havoc that was created when I upgraded to System X.3. It worked but it took a couple of days of carefully adding each font back to the System Library one by one, making sure they all worked. What a mess that was -- glad THAT's over. I guess I can deal with a few font ghosts in my menu.
