Mystery trying to save a file in QXD 5

I inherited a file from another creator, which I'm modifying. Every time I try to save the file, I get a save as dialog and have to overwrite the file in the same directory. I looked under Save Preferences and "Auto Save" and "Auto Backup" are NOT selected. However, "Auto Library Save" and "Remember Position" ARE selected. What am I missing?

No, not saving to a server. Unless the previous user set this up as a server, which I doubt seriously. (It is a standalone Mac.)

I wonder ... when you save, and are prompted to overwrite the file, is it set up to be a Quark 6, and not a Quark 5, file?

Because if memory serves, when you are working on a Quark 5 doc in Quark 6, each time you save, it will prompt you to overwrite the existing file IF you're keeping the file in Quark 5 format.

If that fails, quit Quark, make a duplicate of the file in the Finder, and try working with the dupe for a bit and see if the behavior persists.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I'm still using QXprss 5 and the file is v.5. Also, the duplicating-and-opening-copy method isn't working.

    Hmm.

The problem is rooted in just what you described, only a version back! After your suggestion, I checked and my QX 5 was saving the document as a X 4 doc. Thank you for the answer Lister.
