Tip: Trouble with Hyperlinks and Open URL action

When you create a SWF having a hyperlink or an Open URL action and run that action , a Security Settings dialog may be displayed.

Click on the Settings button on this dialog. Doing so will take you to http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html

Here you would find the Flash Player settings manger . In the Global security settings tab , you can now enter the path of the swf file being played (from edit locations) or simply choose "Always allow" if you never want to see this alert again for any swf file.

Please note, that the security settings of the Flash Player apply to both flavors, so the plug-in (Flash in a browser) and the Standalone Player.

So if you are testing and while previewing a click on an object does not open anything, then please check the security settings.

As written in another post, as the default security setting of Flash is to not allow hyperlinks to be opened across domains, the best way to achieve this, is by running a local web server which forwards the links to the external URL.

Also, so far our investigations have found out, that browsers behave differently, e.g. a mailto: link (to send emails) works fine when used with Firefox 2, whereas Safari first opens an empty browser window and then the email.

    Best
