A QID-presentation for windows (Export type >Windows Projector)
will not even open on a clients windows PC. We instructed the client to manually add the suffix .exe to the file.
The file than would open but show only text elements, no pictures/embedded swfs. The mac projector works fine. Any ideas?

    Hi Ganesh,

Yes , you do need to add the .exe to the windows projector to make it work. We are aware of this issue and apologise for the inconvenience caused to you.

When you export a projector or a swf the swfs used in the project are not exactly embedded , they are exported along with the main swf or projector and referenced by it. These swfs are placed in a folder called LayoutName_SWFFiles , so in order to run this on any other machine the projector and all the other files/folders created along with it need to be present along with the main swf/projector.

Could you please confirm if this was the case?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Kabir

    Hi Kabir,
we did all this an send it to two different clients. We made sure they leave the .exe projector in the same folder as the *_SWFFiles. Starting the .exe file they get a window without the referenced images/SWFs.
    What could we do?

Would it be possible for you to send these files to me?

    Thanks,

    Files sent, Kabir.
"When you export a projector or a swf the swfs used in the project are not exactly embedded , they are exported along with the main swf or projector and referenced by it."

Since this is the case files thus generated seem less than ideal for distribution. They are simply not "idiotproof" enough for the purpose. It would be much better if the single files could be "hidden in a package, a single executable file", so to speak. That's what we had in mind with a projector in the first place. We were wrong probably.

It appears your e-mail Content Scanner has deleted the files we sent.

    Hi, Ganesh,

our corporate virus scanner does not allow EXEs and other potentially dangerous files to be sent via email, therefore they are removed (even stripped out of ZIPs).

Can you put your files on an FTP server, use a free sending service or just rename your files (no exe extension) please?

    Hi Ganesh

I was not able to recreate this defect at our end , but I do admit it is a problem after looking at the code inside the swf file.

The solution to this issue is to rename the frulana_SWFFiles folder to frulana.exe_SWFFiles.

This will solve your problem and now this will work on all windows systems.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Kabir

I have created a QID presentation that will run as a single slide show. The client will need to use a windows-based projector, launching the file from a PC. I created the file on a Mac.

When I export as a Windows Projector file, do I append the file name with .exe?

Where is this folder you are talking about that contains SWF files? In my presentation, I have used only imported picture files (optimized JPEGs), text boxes and imported music and sound effects files. There are no imported SWF files. Will I need to send anything besides the exported Windows Projector .exe file in order for the presentation to run?

    Thank you!

Yes, add an ".exe" at the end of the filename.

When you have no external elements that you link and do not use any videos/SWF then Interactive Designer does not need to create an additional folder. So there won't be any.

Correct, you only need to send the EXE file.
