    Roll on, roll off menus

    Hi all,

Does anybody have any ideas how to achieve roll on/roll off menus? I am almost there, but if you check out http://www.pha-creative.co.uk/Export4.htm and rollover the word PROJECTS towards the bottom of the page, it rolls back out before I want it to.

The event mouse enter is set on the word PROJECTS, and the mouse exit was originally also set on that word, but of course, as soon as the mouse moves away from the word, the menu rolls out.

So, I applied the mouse exit to the white menu area instead, but because there are links on top of that menu area, if the mouse goes over those words, the white area rolls out.

    Roll on, roll off menus

    Hi Jonathan,

I had a similar problem with my project.

I got round it by adding ‘hotspots’ to hide the sub-menu.

So in your example, mouse enter over projects shows submenu, then add 4 pic boxes (no fill or run-round) to the left, right and below the sub-menu, and 1 pic box above the word projects.
Use these objects to hide sub-menu on mouse enter. ie when the user is moving away from the menu.

Sorry, a bit crude but it does work!

    All the best

    Roll on, roll off menus

    Hi again,

Just realised If you draw a pic box around sub-menu and projects, then copy and paste in place, enlarge by say 5pxls, select both and combine (compound) together, then add the hide submenu script to this instead of 4 individual boxes (as suggested before).

    Hope this helps

    Regards
    ChrisK

    Roll on, roll off menus

    Thanks for replying chrisk,

I am not sure your solution would work for me. I am thinking that specifically, when the mouse moves over the words that are part of the menu, it means the mouse is no longer effectively over the white area, so it rolls back to invisible again.

    Roll on, roll off menus

    Hi Matthias,

wasn’t intentionally being secretive, just didn’t want to broadcast my idisk space to the world!

I can forward the example file to you if you think it would be useful.

My solution was as mentioned in previous posts but to summarise

MouseEnter PROJECT shows (with wipe down) sub-menu
    (All sub-menu elements grouped)

Script for each link in sub-menu:
    MouseEnter – Change Txt colour
    MouseLeave – Change Txt colour
    MouseDown – Run Script

SCRIPT – Hide Sub-menu (with wipe up), go to page X

Draw a pic box around sub-menu and word ‘projects’, then copy and paste in place, enlarge by 10pxls, select both and combine (compound) together
Add a mouseEnter script to this object
MouseEnter – Hide sub-menu (with wipe up)

So when the mouse moves away from the sub-menu or up above the word ‘projects’ the hide script on the compounded shape is implemented.

Finally group everything and make a window object (non modal) and an open window script on entering page 1

    All the best

    Roll on, roll off menus

I have just been working out how this works and it is very, VERY clever, but I would never have been able to achieve this in a million years on my own.

To know how to do roll in/roll out menu's in Quark is going to be a HUGE plus point! But, it does really need the example file that Chris kindly made available to me, along with a text explanation.

This should be added to the other FAQ links immediately!

Really getting to like how QID works Big Smile

    Well done, Chris.

    Hi, Chris,

    chrisk:

I imagined that, that's why I put the smiley in there. Excuse my strange German humor please ;-)

I just think that's what a forum is for, that's why I prefer forum posts over private mail or email, this way more people potentially can benefit from posted solutions.

Hopefully for future releases we can integrate all the great posts here from everyone in the documentation.

By the way, if anyone has confidential details or information to share, of course I will happily respond in confidence via private mail or email.

I think it is a good solution, great idea. Still, maybe in future we can make this easier.
