    tip for publishing

When you want to publish your QID file on the web, there's a cool trick using quark, make 2 dummy variable length text boxes (item modify) in your web layout from each side of your QID shared content, check also variable length page (page properties) and your swf file will always be centered on your web page

    Hi, Jacques,

that's a cool trick, it applies in general for the Web layout.

And I like your updated website...

    Thanks

    Re: tip for publishing

Hello jacques: Regarding your tip. You say variable length; don't you mean variable width ( the only option for variable is width, not length )? However, even by following your tip for width (not length), I'm still not able to make this work to center the content. Do the text boxes have to be positioned in a particular way? Any details you can provide would really be appreciated.

hello, yes variable width sorry, you have to put 2 text boxes between your placed swf, the swf should not overlap the text boxes also regards jacques

Sorry, but what does "QID" mean, and what is "dummy variable" length text boxes?

    Hi Odin,

some people like to abbreviate and QID means Quark Interactive Designer, which used to be its own product and which we included in QuarkXPress 8. Now it is the "Interactive" layout type in QuarkXPress 8.

"Variable length" text boxes are a feature of the web layout. You can find it in Item Modify for any given text box.

    Thanks

    Re: tip for publishing

Well, when making a pure SWF, I have never had the problem, as my SWF so far has centered automaticly. With Weblayout/HTML I have a problem. At first it works fine, but if I put a bézierline and object close too each other then one of them is placed out in left at the "variable space"... If I change which object is in front, then it switches around, so the other object then is moved out to the left (I placed them in the middle, and the objects does not touch the textboxes)... Any ideas?

    Re: tip for publishing

Well one solution could be to make it in another layout (web or interactive), and then insert via share layout!

Some webside have shadows at the edge, between the content and the variable thing, see for instance (note the date for this blog, they might have changed it).

    Re: tip for publishing

well one solution is to accept that this area around the edge will not be part of the variable textbox. Then simply draw it with objects, put one next to the textbox, nearest the content, with same colour as the variable textbox, and then put another one in front of the first one, a bit more narrow and with shadows :)
