I've asked for this for about 5 years now. One simple new feature would save me A LOT of time.

Shift highlight or option highlight (with cursor): would allow me to highlight several words in different locations within a document and style them the same with a style sheet, for example.

In magazine work, for example, I need to make the names of people in bold. If there are 20 names on a page, I'd like to be able to highlight all of then and click on a style sheet once.

Please consider this very simple feature.

It's hard to justify buying this one simple feature for $160.

I don't need the other tools in QX-Tools Pro 7.

Like most things, if you use it only once in awhile, it may not be worth the expenditure, but if you spend more than just a few hours doing this type of work, it's an easy call.

But I also think that for $160, they should be offering MANY more useful features.

Think about the cost to upgade Quark and how many new useful features it offers. No comparison. I don't think onOne software is doing the job they need to do.

Well, as a real-to-life user of these products, I plopped down the cash without a second thought. The search-and-replace feature is stellar and that alone saved me many thousands of dollars and hours.

It's not something you can be talked into, though. You either find that the products pay for themselves, or they don't. In that case, it's more cost effective to perform the task manually.

Me? I'm the lazy type. I'd rather pay for the product.

I just did the features "see it in action." I now can say I like the WYSIWYG because it seems to do a slightly better job at organizing font families.

However, it does not show or describe the search and replace feature since it is an old feature of the app. However, you can see a description of it in the PDF user guide.

Question: if I use any of the features in QX-Tools, e.g. ItemStyles, do you know if I have to export them and send to my commercial printer if I supply native files? What about if I supply a high-res PDF to the printer?

You will not need to send anything to your printer. The search and replace features are new to this version. I actually influenced them and was really, really pleased when they developed them.

For those watching this thread, they are "stackable" searches. You can set up a series of search routines. Completely invaluable when importing text files that give you unexpected results.

I probably run more than a hundred XTensions at any given time, but I USE QX-Tools Pro, XPert Tools Pro (yes, they share a lot of features), Xdata, and almost everything from Badia. Couldn't live without them. So, yes, my total application costs are higher, but my application is now completely customized to EXACTLY my workflow.

QX-Tools was originally made by Extensis and is now developed by OnOne Software, neither of which have been bought by Quark. You are thinking of XPert Tools from A Lowly Apprentice Productions (ALAP), which was acquired by Quark a couple of years ago. Unfortunately ALAP did not make an XTension for non-contiguous text selection, although they did make a bunch of other cool stuff that we now give away for free.
