6.52 and OS leapord. Quark crashes when aligning or qrouping.

Since I've upgraded my OS to Leapord I'm having problems with quark. It will let me align two items, if they are not grouped, once...then when I do it again quark crashes. If I try to align three items it crashes. I design a real estate magazine and after about 100 pages of crashing this is getting to be a real problem. I can't upgrade to 7 because the client doesn't have 7. Also, when I go to print the page size defaults to other. No matter how many times I save the settings, all pages when next opened or printed default to other. Izzy

Sorry but if you can't go to XPress 7 then you shouldn't have upgraded your OS as v6, in any incarnation, won't work properly. There are many, and varied, problems users are reporting. Put plainly v6 will not play nicely in Leopard, only v7.31 will.

I'd therefore suggest downgrading the OS to 10.4.11 as a matter of urgency if this is an important job.

    Good luck,

     Greg

Actually, after some research, and if that research is correct:) I'm going to upgrade to 7, infact I purchased it today. The information I'm finding says I can save to version 6 from 7. Do you know if there are any know problems with a file that has been saved as a 6 file from version 7. My concern is, features that are newer being saved to a version that doesn't have those features. Also, I create pdfs in the end for the printer, from my clients office using 6.5. In the past acrobat has shown some issues with pdfs. What looks okay in the office is not what happens when the printer, using a different version of acrobat , printed the file. Type came to the front of boxes when it was suppose to behind...etc. Little things that happen when you start mixing versions of software. Izzy

That should solve some problems for you then - the upgrade I mean. For what it's worth I have v7.31 and am very happy with it. Though I use ID CS3 solely at work I have Quark at home and use it fairly regularly. v7 is miles better, in my opinion, than v6.

However, yes, there are some small issues you'll need to be aware of between v7 and v6. Firstly try not to work on legacy files. If you need to open a v6 document in v7 it's recommended you start a new v7 project and thumbnail drag the pages in from the v6 original, then work on the new, fresh, v7 file. Otherwise you can experience some slow downs and oddities.

Next up downsaving - generally no problem, though of course you lose any v7 specific stuff. But you do need to make sure the copy of Quark 6 is patched up to 6.52 as there were issues with downsaved files and earlier versions of v6.

Lastly, and obviously, just be careful! Downsaving anything, in any program, should be treated with care and double or even treble checked to make sure nothing weird has happened.

    Good luck,

    Greg
