    What is the purpose of the "crossed arrows in a box" toward the bottom of the toolbar?

     Humm, that did not helped, still can't see it.

     BTW do you have any Xtension loaded that would add to your toolbox?

    Hover your mouse pointer over the tool - what is the tool tip (name) that pops up? That'll give you, or us, a clue! I remember the tool, but can't check here - only got 6.52 and it's not there.

    I have that box too. In my version (7.31), it's below the starburst tool. If I hover the mouse over it, nothing comes up, but for all the other tools the tool name comes up.

    What XTension do you have loaded that could be the cause of this extra tool?

    I did some test and it's one of those XPert Tool free extension that loads this icon in the toolbar. Which one? I don't know yet. I'm getting a Extension-loading error when I try to take them out one at a time. I'll have to test it further when I have time.

    I guess its the XPert Scale tool.

    Yeah, that's what I think too. You click on that tool and it allows you to draw a marquee around objects, which selects them, and then the "Item Tool" gets selected (i.e. highlighted). Go figure.
