Holland 1 v 3 Russia, and Russia with a Dutch coach too.

Its a little local soccer tournament for local countries. But imagine if it was Ice Hockey and you'll have some idea how the Dutch Nation feels.

"local tournament"... and that from somebody of an island where they never qualify for those matches that matter. World Cup, England, where? Euro Cup? And even in Wembley you loose against these Germans ;-) Ok, ok, except twice (in 50 years).

It is a truly amazing worm. Worm on steroids.

As I said elsewhere, my copy of QXP7.31, with printed User Guide & What's New manuals and upgrade disks included, weighed in at an impressive 1.6 Kilos but my new boxed copy QuarkXPress 8 with all enclosures included weighs just under 200 grams.

The QXP7 box is 4 inches thick and the QXP8 box is only about 1.5 inches thick. Its small and lighter ...

    However....

The question every Quark user wants answered is how will it compare to QuarkXPress 7.31 and QuarkXPress 6.5. at performing routine tasks.

Well: It is one FAST worm and my suspicions after using it for a week are confirmed. It just feels a whole lot "snappier" and responsive than QXP7.31. I think you are going to be delighted.

This new version of QXP really is the feline's fundament, to coin a phrase and I am absolutely delighted with it. !!! I have been in touch with the people at Markzware and have received assurances that any updates, if required, will be forthcoming to make sure that all of my favourite Markzware XTensions will play nicely with QXP8.

    Re: QXP8.... UPGRADE OVERPRICED

Evidently it has now been released. I am very, very disappointed in Quark. I upgraded to Quark 7. It was a big step up from Quark 6 -- Unicode support came for the first time. Fantastic. It cost a lot too, but I paid for it. But the upgrade price -- four hundred euros -- for migrating from Quark 7 to Quark 8 is much too high. Migrating from Tiger to Leopard doesn't cost anything like that much. And on top of that, someone who didn't even upgrade from Quark 6 to Quark 7 a year ago could until last week buy Quark 7 and pay nothing at all for Quark 8. Why should late adopters be rewarded and loyal users like me be charged so freaking much? (I have used Quark since 1988.) When will Quark learn? When? When? When? I would have been happy to pay €199 for the upgrade. But €399 plus VAT? In this economy, I can't see how I could justify it, since Quark 7 works just fine. Michael Everson A very disappointed Quark user who may very well not upgrade to Quark 8.

    Re: QXP8.... UPGRADE OVERPRICED

To be honest, I've tried the demo and am hugely unimpressed. It feels rather lacking, considering I'm using 7 with XPert Tools (which was free). Is there going to be any implementation of these features, as I assumed they would be natively included? Most of the dialogue boxes are the same huge monstrosities, for example, the Find/Change window. The PDF export still omits security and doesn't treat transparency as well as other applications we could mention. The colour from Imported EPS files are still portrayed wrongly on screen. The print dialogue still doesn't have a preview or implement the printer's native settings properly. Spell checking the same lacklustre affair. Could do with better gradient control. Still unable to create master page from a normal page. Yes, we can paste in place, but what about the guides? etc, etc. I don't think Quark have been listening to their users. Take a look at the suggestions forum. You could probably count on one finger the suggestions they've taken on. Don't feel bad about the upgrade price as there's no point in upgrading. Aside from some basic text features and the ability to import Illustrator files, there's nothing really new. I say wait for version 9. Graeme

How do I import a native illustrator file. When I try, I just see a message saying to turn on pdf compatibility. So it seems I'm just importing the PDF part and not the ai. I've been able to import pdf into lots of versions of quark so where is the killer feature?

    See:

It looks like a few other copies escaped before the general release.
