Filled EPS becomes transparent on export to PDF

When my QXP 7 file is exported to PDF, part of a placed EPS file becomes invisible because the specified fill (white) is converted to transparent. The EPS was created in Illustrator 10 and comprises two different fonts converted to outlines. In the PDF, one of the fonts displays correctly while the other is invisible. I can work around this by opening the PDF in Illustrator in Outline view and converting the newly transparent shapes back to white fill -- but I would prefer to fix whichever application or process is causing the problem. I'm using QuarkXpress 7 and Acrobat Pro 8 on an Intel iMac running MacOs 10.5.3. Is this a known issue? TIA. Simon

check in your Illy 10 EPS that the white fill is not set to overprint in the attributes panel. Also how is the "white" defined, cmyk - black/grey - spot?
