Quark 6.52 keeps creating copies instead of opening files.

We're running an office full of tiger macs, since installing a new Leopard mac we've had some problems with Quark. I'm not sure if the installation of the new Leopard mac is a coincidence or not but since it's arrived we've had quark files start behaving strangley. When you double clidk a file to open it, Quark creates a copy and opens that instead. If you drag the file onto the Quark dock icon it opens normally. Has anyone seen this behaviour before? Thanks, baba

We've got pretty much the same problem here. Three macs in an office populated with PCs and running off a PC-based server. A new mac has just been installed running Panther and the other ones are currently using Tiger. All three running Quark 6.52. I notice file copies are produced by using the apple-O keystrokes as well - the only thing that doesn't do this is dragging the file icon onto the Quark icon in the dock (as you say babaton). Looking forward to any wisdom/suggestions here as there's nada on the net about it from what I can see. Of course, you're only as good asa your googling!

    Cheers Yes

Same Here, We have several Macs running 10.4 and we started to have the same issue right after installing 10.5 in one of them. Also, sometimes when I try to save, I get a message that reads "couldn't find resources".

Any version of QuarkXPress prior to version 7.31 is not compatible with Mac Leopard operating system 10.5.  If you are running any version of QuarkXPress 6 on Mac 10.5 you may notice some odd behavior.  QuarkXPress 6 is only certified to work on Mac OS X v10.3 and 10.4 (and Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP).

I would suggest upgrading to QuarkXPress 7.31 or later for compatibility with Mac 10.5.

If you are down-saving files from QuarkXPress 7 to 6, be aware that QuarkXPress 6.52 is the only version of QuarkXPress 6 that is optimized to open the down-saved files.

We are running OS 10.4 in all of our Macs, except for one. And the 10.5 Mac does not have Quark but it is somehow affecting the other macs. We have updated to 7.31, but we are a commercial printer, so we need to use both, version 6 and ver 7. Finally, I just wanted to be clear that the Macs that have 10.4 are the ones creating the copies.

As OOG wrote after your comment, it's the Macs with 10.4 that are creating the duplicate files! I had the same problem with my system. Using a SBS 2003 server to share files, at first it was Leopard that was creating duplicates - I fixed this (somehow) and now Leopard works great (even with Quark 6.5) but it's Tiger 10.4 that is now creating duplicate files.

A duplicate file is created as soon as you double click to open it - adding 'copy' to the filename and then 'copy 1', 'copy 2' etc every time it's opened.

So, I open the server volume called SHARED and click on a file called TEST, I'll see a file called 'TEST copy' appear on the server and a dialog box says copying 'TEST' to SHARED and Quark will open the file called TEST copy. Do it again and I'll have a file called 'TEST copy 1'

This only happens with Quark files not Word nor InDesign nor Text.

Hi "MACNETWORK", could you please tell me how to fix this problem on 10.5?  our company has the same problem... thank you!

Problems arise when you don't consistently connect to the server with one method - you should stop using AFP and change to CIFS/SMB only. This allows you to use long filenames and I think something changed in OSX because it also allows /@£$%^ characters in filenames. However because you have already saved some files using AFP they need to be reprocessed to have the new type resource forks.

To make your files (which have already been saved via AFP) compatible it is necessary to copy them off the server using AFP and back on using CIFS. You can achieve this by mounting the Windows server simultaneously using AFP and CIFS - this gives you two icons on the desktop and it's then possible to copy your old files from the AFP volume into the CIFS volume.

(connect using i.e. afp://192.168.1.100 and again using cifs://192.168.1.100 in Finder >Go >Connect to Server)

To save confusion the Server Admin should rename the shared volumes so that AFP share and the CIFS share have different names. Once everything is copied back using CIFS turn off AFP sharing so that you don't inadvertently use it.

    Hello,

To avoid this from happening make sure that the "Stationary Pad" is unchecked in the Get Info Window.

To go on the Get Info window Select the file and Hold Apple + "I"

This has to be done on each file which is getting duplicated by double clicking.

    I hope this helps!
