I recently spell checked a document before going to press, and Quark missed a word... Quark says that the spelling of "ommission" is correct. All the other dictionaries say it should be "omission". So is this an error of omission or commission? So now I have 10,000 of these... anyone at Quark wanna buy them?

Don't know who might want to buy them... my spell check finds the error if I type ommission. I guess your proofreader missed the error also?

Is it possible that you added the incorrect word as "correct" in the customizable dictionary you are using?

I am using Quark's built-in dictionary... is it customizable? Can anyone else reproduce this problem on their computer?

Any word that pops up as questionable gives you the choice to "add". So in essence you are customizing the dictionary as you use it.

Under utilities you have the choice to edit auxiliary (dictionary). Select edit, and check to see if the misspelled word is inside. If it is, select, delete, save, and it will "go away".

Interesting... the "ADD" option under spellcheck is ghosted. THe "Edit Auxiliary" option under "Utilities" is also ghosted. Since it has always been ghosted, I am going to assume, I did not add the misspelled word. Ghosted because no auxiliary dictionary is loaded?

This appears to be a problem in the resources of our spellchecking dictionary vendor. We have identified a few problematic words that are not flagged as spelling errors (ommission, transportaion, and equiped). I have notified the vendor and we will be looking for the fix from them.

While you're at it, could you also correct the hyphenation for:

service and services (ser-vice and ser-vi-ces, not serv-ice and serv-i-ces)

independence (in-de-pen-dence, not in-de-pend-ence)

measure (mea-sure, not meas-ure, though I did actually find one dictionary that agreed with the second version)
