Needed: Opening a Quark file in InDesign

I was asked to send a Quark file I created lately to another designer who needs to manipulate it using InDesign. The file I sent him he can't open. Is there a Quark Xtension that I can use to export my file to InDesign, or save it as an ID-compatible file? And how well is it working? Thanks!

Markzware (not sure of spelling) produce an application/extension that will convert Quark files to InDesign. They also produce an application that will convert InDesign to Quark.

The other designer needs to obtain the Quark to ID product (it's not free, but there may be a trial version available).

Never used either, so don't know how good a job they do.

The only other way is if you are using Quark 4 (or can save back to Q4). InDesign will open that.

Hope that is of some help.

We use Q2ID (the Markzware utility) all the time we need to open old Quark stuff as we no longer use XPress and it's fine. It'll mess up some stuff - particularly text formatting and, sometimes, images but generally it's useable. The ID user needs to have it, not you (the Quark user). Once installed you open ID then do a file/open on the Quark file as it won't open by double clicking. Might open by dragging over the ID icon in the dock (if you're on a Mac) not sure.

I'd highly recommend sending a PDF of the job too so once it's open in ID checks can be made by comparing the PDF and the converted Quark file to make sure things are how they should be.

     Good luck,

    Greg

Ami, I have the extension here at work. If you have not solved your issue yet, send me the quark file. I can open in ID and send that file back to you. I won't need any fonts/images. When you send the new ID file, include fonts/images for them, and they can re-link all placed images.
