Cant type the letter "q" in quark

Using a windows machine, the letter "q" in lowercase cannot be typed into quark. The uppercase "Q" works.

Have replaced the keyboard, and the letter "q" can be typed into other programs.

Have you tried inserting it using the Character Map?

(Sheeesh--I absolutely hate my life for actually learning this XP stuff.)

If I were a guessing man, I'd guess that something on your computer is intercepting the Q key for a keyboard shortcut. Can you type a Q in other programs? If so, try quitting Quark, moving your Quark preferences to a different location and restarting Quark. This will build new default prefs that may help.

I have since discovered that not being able to type the letter "q" is local only to that particular save (catalogue) of quark and any copies made

So you just can't type the letter "q" in one document? If that is true you can do a thumbnail drag of that document and possibly get rid of whatever corruption is in your document. Just go to the on-line knowledge base and type thumbnail drag for step by step instructions.

Just tried the thumbnail drag that didnt appear to work.

It does appear to be just the one document.

I have the same problem but with the letter "a" on an azerty keyboard (which takes the position of the q on qwerty keyboards), only with the small character, not the capital letter A. For a second, I thought the A button on my keyboard was broke, but then noticed it worked fine in all other applications. So whenever I'm editing text in Quark, I have to copy/paste the a character from somewhere else in the document and paste it each time I want to use it. This is a very strange (and annoying!) method but it works.

That's odd! Does it happen in any Quark doc? Or only one like former posters? With old and new files alike? Whatever be the font in use? Does this happen only in the text boxes or everywhere in the application? (search field and other fields) What language is your keyboard set to?

Just noticed it is just in one document (regular booklet folded A3 size), not in the others but I have NO idea why this happens. In search fields, everything works fine, it's only when inserting text into text boxes.  I've also already checked all the keyboard shortcuts of my style sheets, but non of them is set to "A". Thank you for your attention and followup. My keyboard settings are Belgian French.

So would a kinda wild card do the trick? Type down a $ sign or whatever sign you never use in the doc and at the end of the work, perform a Search & Replace (if it works that way?).

Belgian French would the best actually :-) Though mine is set to French. Have you tried switching the keyboard language?

It could also be a style sheet. You can attach keyboard shortcuts to them. So it could be that by accident to one of them the "a" is attached as a keyboard shortcut.
