I have heard this question several times now from customers again and again, so I thought I share the solution with you.

Problem

Since version 10.5 Mac OS X does not show previews of EPS files anymore. Also QuickLook doesn't show previews of EPS files.

When using QuarkXPress this might be an issue, as when import EPS files (via File > Import or via drag and drop) you do not see a preview in the Finder or Import-Dialog, just a generic EPS icon.

Though in the layout (inside a box) QuarkXPress (Version 6.1 and higher) can show previews of EPS files that do not have a preview (by choosing Full Res Preview), when using dialogs like the import dialog QuarkXPress relies on the OS. Therefore you only see the generic EPS icon. Same applies to folders on your desktop when going to drag and drop EPS into the layout (QuarkXPress 8 feature), you can't really see specifics of the file.

Solution

Luckily a clever developer, Eternal Storms, offers a great plugin for Apple's Quicklook that adds the possibility to see previews of EPS files to Leopard. As it is Donationware, please donate if you like it and use it:

All you need to is drag and drop it to the right Quicklook folder  (instructions are within the downloaded files), might have to restart your machine, and previews of EPS can be seen in the normal Finder windows, or using Quicklook, also in the Import Dialog of QuarkXPress 7 and 8 and other applications.
