Do Forms designed in Quark work with PHP

I have a client that wants me to redesign his site but he uses PHP. Are Quark sites compatible with PHP? I have Quark 8 demo but would like to get the full if this is true. Thanks.

    Hi elpnt11583,

    Thanks for your question!

Currently QuarkXPress does not have app development language support (like PHP, ASP, ColdFusion, etc.)... and you cannot view/edit the code within the XPress layout.  You can edit the HTML that XPress exports (its all standards compliant HTML), but it would likely take you longer to modify the HTML than it would to write an entirely new page by hand.

You can use the forms tools in XPress to submit actions via the HTTP Get and Post methods to specific URLs (so if you are submitting form data to a CGI, PHP, ASP, etc. script).  I would imagine if your client is requiring PHP, they likely have more complex requirements for integration with back end systems than QuarkXPress can support (e.g. datasource driven dynamic content, login/session management, etc.).

We are looking into the feasibility of possibly supporting development languages in the web layout and 2 way, dynamic datasource connectivity, but I couldn't tell you what future version that might be.

    Hope that helps!

Thank you for your response. Actually I will be designing the site in Quark and designing the forms in Quark but the host uses PHP to run the forms. I understand that I cannot create PHP code or any other code in Quark but if I design the form in Quark can I apply the PHP script to the "Action" section of the form? In other words, can the host use the form that I design in Quark and link it to their PHP? I know very little about the back end part and therefore will not touch it but I also didn't want to design the form in Quark if they can't use it. Thanks.

Ahhh, thank you for the additional info.  So... yes, the forms should work (via the action field) if you are using the PHP to process the form data.

    Thanks!

Thank you very much for your help. So far I'm really excited about QuarkXpress 8 and I hope to see Quark expand in the web field as it is very difficult for designers to offer a well build site with the other current offerings.
