    Quark 8 indexing

I am redoing an old file to version 8 (dragging thumbnails, etc), and everything is working fine, except the indexing. Previously I had a tab character after the index which was achieved by putting \t in the 'Following Entry' field in the Index Prefs dialogue.

When I indexed first off it just gave no space between the index entry and the page number. When I entered \t in the Prefs box, instead of a tab it now gives me the \t characters in the output, eg index entry\t12 (where 12 is the page number).

Any suggestions as to how I can insert a tab there now?

    Thanks

    Chris

Unlikely, but have you confirmed you used \t and not /t?

Also, do index tags transfer when thumbnail dragging? If I remember correctly, they didn't in 6.5 (I never really got to crack into 7 before I lost my last job, so I don't know if it worked there or not).

You are right it does inserts a \t there; luckily copy pasting a tab character from layout to index preferences still works

    Yup, definitely \t.

And AFAICR it worked in v7 - not sure about earlier versions as I never seemed to need to bother redoing the files with them.

Thanks AD. Good idea - I should have thought of that.

    A revision for v8.1 perhaps.
