    OT: ID Query

    Here's one for the bi-lingual!

I have a picture box in InDesign with an image placed in it.

I drag the width handle till it's 40mm. No problem.

I undo this, and type '40' in the width box on the measurements pallette - and the picture distorts.

I daren't ask on the ID board as they'll just say 'it's not a picture box it's a....(whatever it is they call them)'.

I could do this job SO quickly in Quark (lining up/offsetting a load of images), but this is doing my head in.

What function can it serve to have different behaviour when you re-size by dragging as opposed to re-sizing by typing? I hate dragging, love my measurements pallette.

    RANT OVER, temporarily....

    Re: OT: ID Query

Hi Emma, It's called a 'Rectangle Frame' for future refernence. Ha ha - I know what you mean about doing quickly in XP. I used ID for 6 months at a company and hated using it. I can, but hate it. Anyway, back to your query - when you use picture boxes there are two. One for the framing and one for the actual picture. The picture frame has a brown line with handles and the frame has blue so when you alter things in the measurements palette it depends on which box is highlighted that will alter the position of the box or style of the content. You could always do it in XP if you have 'QX2ID' and then open it in ID? Or, save down to v4 and then open it but I guess when you've done all that downsaving you've figured out how to do it!!! Hope it helps anyway, dave
