Smile [:)] Tracking and leading issues

I'm sure It's been well documented that there are issues when copying text elements from Quark 7.3 files into earlier versions. For example, I've copied over a text box with -20 tracking from 7.3 into a 7.1 file. The tracking becomes even more squished. Another text box with 110 tracking becomes longer causing it to overrun the text box.

I realise there are ways I can combat this; for example, copying the thumbnails into a new file. However, is there a setting or something I can change to prevent this from being a problem as the change is not always instantly noticeable, especially if there are a lot of pages and a lot of text? Thanks, Graeme

    Re: Tracking and leading issues

Early version of Q7 had "issues" relating to tracking and type. Old jobs would reflow when converted to 7. That has been fixed in the update patches, including version 7.5 that is now available. That is a good reason to stay "fully patched" with the software. Only problem (a biggie none the less) is with files that exist only in early versions of 7. These will reflow. The bug was fixed, so it is a certain. I don't think any type of thumbnail drag will fix because it is not a corruption issue. It is the way quark 7 (incorrectly) mapped the text on the page in the first place.

Unless you PDF your files for print, it is a MUST to be fully patched. For certain the folks outputting your quark files will be using the latest version. And unless you specify a "version" of quark that NEEDS to output your file (i.e., please output only in quark 7.1), you will experience re-flows in the plate/press process.
