    CONSUMER BEWARE!

I have had the worst experience with this Quark 8 upgrade. Two months ago I signed up for 7 and get 8 free. At that time I requested a DVD and gave my credit card info so I would be all set. 8 comes out and I get a download. I inquire that I wanted the DVD and they advised me to call. I called and they told me to email cservice@quark.com . I emailed and they told me to call, so I called again and "demanded" they assist me and they finally did. But they told me they needed my credit card info again. Apparently my first "contract" to get the DVD was sent to some third party so who knows where my credit card information is. What a safeguarding of customer private information! I haven't finished with that problem being investigated yet. So then I get the DVD in the mail, go to install it, very vague help me instructions. It says to click on Full Install or Upgrade and follow the system prompts. So I assume I click on Upgrade since that is what I am doing and I get a validation code I need which according to instructions is on the package. The instructions say installation help is on the back of the DVD card but that is blank...hmmmm. So then I see it says to click to go to web site to get the validation code. Go to site, follow directions to get serial number, input in field, not valid or not registered. Try to register and says that serial number is already registered...so how the h--- do I install this horrendous program. Why can't you make your program like most people so you just simply upgrade it. I have zero problems with all other software I use but always, and I repeat always, have a horrendous time with QuarkXPress. If anyone from Quark reads this I hope you get me some help because I have had enough of your program and it's obstacles and you not protecting my private information!!! CONSUMER BEWARE!

    Wow !!

That is all very dire. You have my sympathy. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you are trying to say that your experiences with Quark Customer Service and installing Quark software products are always, and I repeat always, simply HORRENDOUS and that you have had other HORRENDOUS experiences with Quark software before.

I sure hope you get your problems with cservice@quark.com and installing QXP8 sorted out soon.

All of my own experiences with the QuarkXPress installation / activation procedures and my sessions with the fine people at Quark Customer Service have been consistently, universally, and uniformly excellent, so I can assure you that although your horrendous experiences are typical for you they are very possibly completely and totally atypical for Quark.

And welcome to the Quark Forums!

I know you will enjoy discussing all things Quark with other happy QuarkXPress users.

I don't think this is atypical, I'm half way through the same process! Upgrade to 7 get 8 free, go on the web give out credit card details to cover the shipping and licensing, there seemed no way to register a second copy using the same e-mail address!. A month after Binky gets his quark8 I ring to ask where is mineSad. No records, more credit cards, more e-mails, finally get the boxes here and then I get an e-mail yesterday saying its available to download and here are the Serial numbers and Validation codes but do they match whats on the boxes...? No, that would be too simple.

The customer service people at quark Europe are always really helpful on the phone and do get the problems sorted, but installing Quark7 or 8 is insanely complicated, finding and typing in those super long codes, which are NOT on the website, you need to allocate half a day.

    Well...

That's TWO people who've had trouble with buying QXP7 and then upgrading from QXP7 to QXP8 for free.

    I envy you both.

I missed out on that wonderful opportunity because I already had a copy of QXP7, acquired back in 2007, long before they announced the "Buy 7 Get 8 free" deal. So instead of getting QXP8 as a free upgrade I have the alternative delightful privilege of having separate boxed copies of each.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Customer Support people at Quark will solve all of your activation problems effectively and get you up and running soon.

I certainly do not intend to in any way slight the seriousness of your trauma but I prefer to think of the QuarkXPress installation process as... intricate... interactive... and potentially challenging, rather than "insanely complicated". The requirement of finding and typing in those super-long activation codes, (although in my case it took considerably less than the half of a day it took you), is just one more precious little way in which QuarkXPress manifests its difference from the other, simpler, programs on my computer.

Personally I found the installation of the QuarkXPress 8 upgrade very simple comparatively to the QuarkXPress 7 upgrade. Just a click to request the validation from Quark's site and a copy/paste to enter it... As long as you enter the right serial number of course.

    G Nicker :

First of all, I really apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Secondly, thanks for sharing your experience, this would definitely help us move one step ahead towards customer satisfaction.

As you mentioned, when you submitted your redemption form, QuarkXPress 8 was available only as a boxed product. Due to overwhelming customer demand, we are now providing your QuarkXPress 8 via a FREE and easy download.  As we offered a downloadable product and apart of this if customer wishes to have a physical media we need to request for the credit card information in order to process the request.

I would be glad to get the matter resolved ASAP, if you could please PM me the contact details (Product Serial Number, Phone number) or drop an email to techsupp@quark.com (Atten. Gaurav)

Looking forward to assist you !

    Rgds,

    Gaurav Krishan

OK so somewhere between the two.

have you considered a career in politics?

Anyway it seems I have 4 serials for quark8 so I'll treat it as a bonus for my troubleYes

    A carreer in politics ???

    Qui, moi ???

Absolutely not ! I have seldom been so insulted, (but it is early, yet).

There are already too many comedians in Canadian politics.

Besides, Canadian politics are notoriously cut-throat, petty vicious and ruthless... specifically because there so little at stake.

But to return to the topic at hand, I am glad that you have solved your QXP8 activation issues in an entirely acceptable manner. I hope that fellow who started this thread is as successful.

I was sure that with a little patience and a call to Customer Service the problem would be resolved to your satisfaction.
