 Hi all,

I was wondering if there was a way of changing the licensing information without having to re-install Quark?
Is there a file I can delete, something that can be done that will make Quark XPress prompt for a License/Activation key.

 

Synopsis:

We just bought a couple of Mac Pro's and proceeded with the install process of all our apps. For this  normally keep all software used by a user in a seperate box. At this point, all the former Quark Licenses have been transfered to the new macs. 

Now we do have another station that we wish to "upgrade" with one of those old macs. I haven't "zapped" them yet as I would  prefer to keep them as is (it has the same software package as the new ones), that is if I can managed to input the software licenses assigned to that station to replace the one that has been transefered to the new mac

Hi Scripting_Ace, There is a empty Quark folder in Hard Disk > Library > Quark. Well not really empty because the invisible files in it are involves in the activation process. Delete this folder and launching QuarkXPress will call for activation. Not sure if that's what you want to do. Best is to back up this folder before...

Saddly I do not have such a folder on either of my machines...

Actually, Quark already calls for activation (because we transfered its license to the other mac) but this I fear only deals with that final installation step where the use of the license is logged at Quark inc.

Waht I am after here is a way to have quark ask me for that neverending "Validation Code" and also let me change the user name this Quark is licensed to.

My mistake Ace.. Hard Disk > Library > Preferences > Quark... But now as I understand what you are after, I'm not sure I can help you more on this.

Michel. Try deleteing (or moving) the following file:

com.quark.QuarkXPress.plist

It's in Macintosh HD>Users>~username>Library>Preferences

The plist files (in Preferences) are usually the ones that store serial numbers and most apps check for their existence on startup. If it's missing, you get a serial number prompt. 

I doubt very much that this will work Erik. I have trashed this file countless times before and never had to dig for that Validation Code.

In fact, I've only seen this step during the installation/upgrade process. I was just inquiring if there was a "magic" file somewhere that could be "dealt with" that would bring me back that dialog upon my next launch of Quark.

Well, you're right Michel. I gues I should have tried it first. It's worked in the past with some other apps for me, so I just assumed.

Most likely there is a file somwhere, but if it isn't this one then I don't know which.
