    Invalid serial number

I recently used SuperDuper to clone the original hard drive on my Power Mac G4 MDD to a larger replacement drive. All of my applications seemed to work on the new drive until I attempted to launch Quark 6.52. At that point the program asked me to re-activate the application but when I tried, I received a message that my copy of Quark had an invalid serial number. (I have already erased the original drive, so I can't put that one back in.)

Is there a way to enter the serial number without doing a complete reinstall of Quark? If I do have to reinstall, which components of Quark do I need to get rid of off my computer before I do the reinstall?

Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

This message could be due to the fact that your Quark 6 has been upgraded at some point to version 7. In this case a reinstall won't change anything -- the quickest (and only) way to get your Quark 6 running would be to get in touch with our technical support.

    Re: Invalid serial number

Really? Upgrading to a newer version apparently deactivated Quark 6? I'm just a little confused, since I'm currently running three different versions of Quark (6, 7, and 8) at work on the same Mac (not simultaneously, of course). (The only reason I'm  still using the older version of Quark is that I'm working with legacy documents that contain PowerMath/XpressMath equations.) That's why I'm not understanding why the upgrade won't allow me to continue to use Quark 6 after the hard drive swap.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

    Re: Invalid serial number

Our policy regarding the upgrades is that you can continue to use one older version (on Mac you can even run it simultaneously without problem). The activation / transfer of this version should still work, exactly as for the active version. The problem with QuarkXPress 6 is that you cannot transfer the licence by yourself to another computer (as it is possible for QXP 7 and 8). So if you have to reinstall that QXP 6 for a specific reason, please contact our technical support and we will find a solution for you.

    To Manuel

Could you explain how to update a copy of Quarkxpress passport 7.3 that is installed on an external hard drive to Quarkxpress 8 Plus when I try to do this the software says you cannot install the software on this system and needs to be run on the system drive Mac OSX 10.5.4 how can this software be updated seeing this feature is built into QuarkXpress 8.0

I would be grateful for any details regarding how to update my software on an external hard drive and if possible a updater to help users with the same issues including invalid installation codes.

    thankyou

    Re: installing on another volume

     Hello Carrick,

Since your question is not really related to the previous, you should have opened a new thread for this, but here's the answer nevertheless:

    1. When the QuarkXpress 8 installer asks for the installation volume, select your system drive (that's the only choice anyway).
    2. Click "Continue".
    3. In the next window, click on "Customize"
    4. In the window allowing to select the packages, click on the Location field and select "Other..."
    5. This allows you to select another volume as the destination of the install.
