"Save PDF to postscript" file gives me double file name

So when I "save PDF as postscript" for a final PDF, in the save box Quark is giving me a double file name. Example... the file name is "0125-1000 Main Client brochure" When I go to save the postscript file for printing, it auto fills in the save box with "0125-1000 Main Client brochure_0125-1000 Main Client brochure.ps" Any idea why or how to stop this? It has happened since updating to Quark 7. It's not that big of a deal except when the file name gets 20-30 characters long then I have to delete all the "crap" to shorten the name. Any help is appreciated. jeff

Please Navigate to QuarkXPress>>Preferences>>PDF and change the Default name to "Project.pdf" and check the results.

Thanks for the info. It sure seems to be what I wanted to fix the problem. But nope, didn't fix the problem. Hmm. I'll keep fishing. I did save the preferences, quit Quark and came back just to make sure.

Try creating a Preferences folder with Capital"P"under HDD>>Applications>>QuarkXPress folder and then relaunch QuarkXPress. Now save the Preferences setting as mentioned above and then check the results.

Thanks for the reply. Your solution did not help either. No idea why at this point. Seems that all solutions suggested should have done the trick but I guess it's a "quark" in our Quark. It does happen on all our machines running different versions of the Mac OS. I guess I'll just have to live with it for now. Thanks

I am having this problem too.. Its pretty annoying.. I did all of the above, and even changed the other prefs from Direct to PDF, to Creat PS for later distilling.. and linked it to my watched folder..

It only seems to work for the Export PDF function.. where we here, print to postscript files..

    Hi,

Please update the version of QuarkXPress to 7.5 in case you are using a lower version of QuarkXPress 7.

You can download the updater from website.

Thanks, but I'm at 7.5 currently.

OK, you've probably done this, but did you check the Single Layout Mode box in QuarkXPress/Preferences/Project/General?

I'm guessing you've done this, or you'd be getting the double file name at the top of each document too.

Well, that took care of it. THANKS. I never had that "button" in past versions OR I should say, it never effected it in the same way. This has also taken care of me naming the file and the project separately Whoa, killed to birds with one stone! THANKS!!!!!!!

Glad I could help. That whole "double file name" thing drove me absolutely insane in version 6, and there was no way to turn it off until version 7.

FYI to all, there is a Virtual Knowledge Base article on this subject in the Quark Virtual Knowledge Base. I am copying the article below, but you can view the article through the Virtual Knowledge Base directly at:

    http://www.quark.com/service/desktop/support/techinfo/knowledgebase.html

How to create PDF with only one name

Applies to: QuarkXPress 7 & 8, All Mac OS, All Windows

Introduction: I want to be able to print to PDF via PDF Writer through the Print dialog, but I only want the a single project or layout name rather than "Project Name : Layout Name." How can I do this?

More Information: In order for QuarkXPress 7 and 8 to assign a single name to the name of a PDF or PostScript file generated through the Print dialog, select the checkbox for "Single Layout Mode" in the New Project dislog. If you have an existing project that you created without selecting this checkbox, you can change the mode of an existing project to Single Layout Mode. To do this go to QuarkXPress > Preferences (Windows: Edit > Preferences) and selecti Single Layout Mode in the Project General Preferences pane.

Note: If you have more than one layout in a project, you will not be able to change a Multiple Layout project into a Single Layout project.
