    Fonts are being Substituted!

    hi there,

I have a document which I have used for previous jobs and only recently has it been giving me problems. When I open the doc, the fonts (which are loaded) are substituted with Helvetica when they should be GillSans (in multiple styles). Has anyone come across this problem with a soltn?

    Much appreciated!

What version of Quark? This sounds like an issue that was addressed with the 7.5 update.

I don't know if this will remedy your problem, I've found a simple solution to a similar problem that I've had intermittently: fonts go missing in Quark files (and get replaced with other fonts).

    Here's what happens:
When I open the problem Quark file, it gives me the message that fonts are missing; when I click "list fonts" it shows multiple entries, but the "missing font" column is blank in each row. I can replace the missing fonts, but I don't know which fonts I'm replacing (and therefore which replacement font I should select).

    To avoid this problem:
Save each Quark "layout" (tab) into it's own Quark "project" (file). (In other words: don't combine multiple documents in one Quark file.)

The challenge: the problem is PREVENTABLE, but may not be FIXABLE, unless you have multiple systems that you can use to try to open the problem files.

    My system specifications:
    Mac G5
    Mac OS 10.4.10
    Font utility: FontAgent Pro 3.3.2
    QuarkXpress 6.5

    My specs:
    Quark 6.52
    MacOS 10.4.11
    Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5
    2GB RAM

It's dependant on a couple of things (minimum).

    1. the version of Quark. Each has it's own unique "issues"

    2.  The environment (i.e. single workstation, multiple workstation)

    3.  The font management software (if any).

The issue with v7-7.3 is and was, the application randomly "assigns" missing type (that really isn't missing) to a new face.  If you're using any variation of version 7, you need to update to 7.5 (that's half the battle).

I am having the same issue.  When I upgraded to 8 font that I didn't have problems with now will not load into the file.  Illustrator and InDesign have no problem with these fonts.  I  wish I knew of a solution.  This is very frustrating! - g

i had a similar problem. In a QXP 6.5 document after a upgrade the font manager to Extensis Universal Type Server some fonts changed in a document. This happened because the document had 2 layouts. I didn't find any workaroud for this except working with single layout documents.
