Funny you should mention the EPS with Postscript Color Management turned on---
That's exactly why I'm here tonight!! My dilemma is this: Six months ago we did a job, images were CMYK, EPS with Color Mgmnt checked on. I exported a PDF using CMYK + Spot. Ran them through Prinergy pdf workflow. The images looked very washed out. A button in Prinergy allowed me to "Override Embedded Profiles" and the images reproduced much nicer.
Now, the job is back with revisions. New file from client. Most of the same images. So I tried the same thing and it did not work the same way!
So, now I'm back trying to troubleshoot the Quark files for any differences in the color management. Job six months ago, look in Usage/Profiles, nothing is color managed. Look at "Profile Information" - Picture Type and Color Space both "Unknown". Profile, Rendering Intent, and Color Manage are , respectively, None, Perceptual, and "Unchecked", though all three are grayed out.
Job today - Look in Usage/Profiles and all images are using QuarkXpress Legacy CMYK profile. Profile Information - Picture Type is Unknown, but Color Space is XYZ (?). Profile is blank, Intent is Perceptual, and Color Manage IS CHECKED. Again, last 3 items grayed out.
Color Management preferences are set to "Enable Access to Picture Profiles". So how in the heck can I turn the profile OFF? In Usage, I can only replace it with "Generic XYZ Profile." The job we did 6 months ago does not show a Profile present, and the one we're doing today shows me there's color management going on, but I can't strip it out to be like the previous job.
The images are the exact same images! I thought it might be that the older job was done on an older version of Quark 7. We, thankfully have a rarely-used machine that hasn't been upgraded, so I tried Version7.01. All is the same! And if I try to re-import the picture, the Color Management box is CHECKED and Gray (Unavailable to edit).
It's very frustrating that this is so difficult to unlock. Shouldn't "Enable Access to Picture Profiles" enable me to access my picture profiles? So I can get rid of them.
If anyone has an idea, I'd be grateful.
Thanks........
