My client wants a reference list in an appendix, but some of the book listings have asterisks in front (for easy reference of books that are still in print). I'll have the books as a style sheet item to collect into the list, but if I choose the alphabetize check box, I don't see where I'm going to have an option to have the asterisk overlooked for alphabetical sorting.

 Is there another dialog I need to check to sort by in order to keep in alpha order with the asterisks in front?

 By the way, I'm using QXP 6.1 for this.

 If you use the index function instead of the list, there's a "sort by" field. For example, if you have a name like "John Smith," you can sort it by "Smith, John." For your application, you could just as easily sort "*John" as "John" without the asterisk. Something to consider.

Let me try this...may be I can get a workaround or a solution :)

 Thanks for the link! It solved my issue! Two messages after your post was a link to http://www.durrant.co.uk/sorttextm.html which is the Macintosh Sort Text XTension. I downloaded it, and tested it. It works! My asterisk items sorted properly with no quirks.

 This will allow me to take on a big project for a client. Thank you!
