A dumb question - I've lost my menus!

I am using Quark 5.1 and two of the menus have got pushed off the right side of the screen - how do I get them back?

Perhaps you could increase the resolution of your monitor. This would make everything "smaller", and fit more on your screen. This is assuming that toggling the windows off and on from the menus hasn't solved the problem.

If you can afford to lose any custom preferences you may have set (including print styles) you could just delete the preferences file. That will force a new preferences file to be written, which would reset all your palattes.

Is that XpressPreferences.prf?   Do I just delete it completely or just all its contents?

Yes, that is the correct file. Just delete that one. Or move it to your desktop and relaunch XPress. If your problem goes away, then you're good and you can trash the file. If not, it's something else.

Changing to a lower resolution might also force the palattes back onto the screen. You can then center them and then go back to your previous resolution.

     Hooray!   Problem solved!

Changing the screen resolution right through the range from highest to lowest had no effect at all (except that it b***d up the layout of all my program icons!) but deleting the preferences file - or moving it to the desktop and re-naming it - solved the problem.

When I re-loaded Quark all the palettes reappeared, and, what is more, when I re-loaded a document I had just finished, nothing had changed - all the parameters of the document were exactly as before !

Very many thanks for the advice - next time I have a problem I'll know who to ask!
