    Hi, Alan,

how are you creating these links? Using an "external reference" method (popup)? If yes, can you post an example of a reference you used?

    Thanks
    Matthias

I am doing it all in quark. I am creating a picture box and then using the hyperlinks pallette to assign the target url to the box. should I be using a separate text box for each link? Thanks, Alan

Re: Please help! My links will not work

    Hi, Alan,

first, on what platform are you (Mac/Win) and what version of QuarkXPress are you using?

Secondly, are you working in an Interactive or a Web layout?

And my question was, how exactly you create these hyperlinks. So you are using the hyperlink palette to enter links, good. How are you entering them? As URLs by entering text? If so, what text do you enter? Or to point to anchors in the same document? If so, how did you create these anchors and are they in the same document?

    Thanks
    Matthias

Re: Please help! My links will not work

Hello, and thank you for the help. I am using a Mac, quark version 7.3.1, it is an interactive layout. I am typing my url/ links in, they are not in the same document, they are actually not even local to my computer. It is strange that they operate fine on the laptop that I created the layout on, but not on any other computers. Alan

Re: Please help! My links will not work

If your links reference ANY document outside of your computer, you MUST use "http://" in front of the link addresses (unless the server structure is identical for relative references). For example, you may have pointed to a link on your machine and it placed "file:///" or something similar in the links since it thought they were local, which means they will not work on any computer EXCEPT yours. Another possibility is that the links are "relative" links. These are something like "/pages/click.html" instead of "http://www.website.com/pages/click.html" or something similar. If you try to move these to another computer or server and the folder structure is not identical, the links will not work. And as always, if you link to another website or another website's pages, you MUST use "http://" to denote that it is in fact NOT a local link. i.e., "www.adobe.com" should always be "http://www.adobe.com" since it is not local to your server. These are the two most probably scenarios I can think of without seeing your document... Hope this helps... jdb

Re: Please help! My links will not work

    Happy new year, Alan,

sorry for the late response, I was on holidays.

Can you please post an example of what you type? As Joel described correctly, probably you are using a local link instead of a global or proper relative link.

Do you type "quark.com" or "www.quark.com" or "http://www.quark.com" or "pictures/logo.gif" or what exactly do you type?

    Thanks

Re: Please help! My links will not work

I don't get any error message, what happens is the cursor will change to a hand when I roll over the link areas, but i don't get any hyperlink info at the bottom of the browser, and when you click on the link nothing happens. Here is a test page http://www.geocities.com/ajsaltdocs/test.htm the blue box should be a link to an external page. Thanks, Alan

Works for me (FF/Mac), links to http://www.geocities.com/copycatband/thegroovemain.htm

On which platform/browser did you successfully try and where did you fail?

    Hi, Alan,

what Flash Player (plugin) do you use on these machines?

(Right click on the SWF on each machine and the last menu entry should tell you the version.)
