When I originally received my latest Quark Xpress 8 upgrade disk (I upgraded from 7.x), I first installed the OS X version on my iMac. As expected, after inserting the disk into my CD/DVD drive, the auto-installer launched and began the installation process. At the completion of the process, the final screen acknowledged a successful installation. So everything progressed as expected in this case.
However, quite unexpected was the problem that I encountered upon the insertion of each of those same disks into my DVD on my Windows XP system. The DVD drive began reading the inserted disk but surprisingly no auto-install app launched. I decided to examine the disk contents to see if I could find a setup program, a .exe file or an .msi file. To my surprise the upper-most directory contained none of the aforementioned files. That certainly explained why the auto-installer was not working as it did on my iMac.What's not clear is why both disks are labelled with MAC & WINDOWS, but only Macs are capable of activating the auto-install component (upon insertion) and completing a successful installation?
Since Quark Xpress 8 is a relatively new release at this point in time, I'm assuming that this discrepancy has not been discovered by many end-users. Can anyone tell me if they have successfully launched the auto-install app (WIN version) on the Quark Xpress 8 MAC/WIN disk on their Windows XP system? I have not been able to accomplish this normally simple task. And just where are those Windows version auto-install files (setup, .exe, .msi) located on the disk? They certainly don't appear to be located anywhere in the root directory.
And, just for the record, I'm aware that I can download a Windows version of Quark Xpress 8, which is what I wound up doing.
