Limitations in size of Postscript files???

Hi all..! Working in Mac, 0X.4.11, Quark 6.5 + Adobe (Distiller CS2). Does anyone know if there is a limit for creating "hugh" PS-files??? If I try to save a file (or print direct to Adobe PDF 7), I can't exceed the limit around 1,8 GB. It doesn't matter if I save as a PS-file or try to export as PDF or whatever... I always end up with "Warning - Empty job - No PDF produced"... I tried to expand the VM cache in Distiller PPD, to se if that could help - no way, but now I am more convinced that there is a size limit somewhere in Quark. Any hint out there? Hello,

I would like to inform you that there is no size limit for creating PDF's or PS files in QuarkXPress.

Please try to delete the Jaws folder and then see the results. Jaws folder is located in Mac HDD / Applications /QuarkXPress 6 folder.

Moreover, you can also compress the PDF files by perform the following steps:-

*Go to File > Export layout as PDF

*Click on the options button in the Export as PDF window

    *Select the Job options tab

Choose the compression for color images and grayscale images as Manual jpeg high and then create the PDF.

    I hope this information helps.

Re: Limitations in size of Postscript files???

Hi again..! Nope! Removing the JAWS folder makes it just coming back again after Restart... After restarting - and before making the PDF - just after removing the new JAWS folder, resulted in a new and empty (0 kB) PS-file and also a new JAWS folder residing in Quark folder, although this time only containing a "temp"-folder but no folder with fonts. I know all about the compression techniques - but we've found out that even with high-quality JPG, we loose to much details in the "hairlines" in the pictures - and they become jaggy (in this case it is wheels and rims with decorated edges where the jaggies appears on) More - and better ideas? Anything is appreciated instead of printing the broschure page by page or in sequences. // Lennart

I hope Preet takes his statement back because the age old 2GB limit for a postscript file seems to be still in place for Quark6 on OSX. As youve found out you get a ( 0kb ) file size in the Finder. Only way around it is to ps files in small enough chunks of pages. There is a way of "safely" turning these files into a single PDF but I forget it at the moment. By the wayThe JPG settings for your PDF won't make any difference to the .ps file size that is hitting 2GB before new compression is applied.

That would make sense considering the rush to market of XPress 6.x after the XPress 5.x-OS9 only debacle. So much of XPress 6.x is still coded for OS9.
