Quark 8 - is Acrobat Pro needed?

I am using the demo of Quark 8, and beginning to appreciate its power, etc. One question that seems almost pre-beginner level. If I make PDFs directly from Quark, is there any need for Acrobat Pro? The reason I ask, because of my work I can get the entire Adobe CS 4 Design Pro (with Acrobat pro included) for about double the price of an upgrade to Quark. I prefer to stay with Quark, but If I have to buy Acrobat Pro, then it would be more cost effective to just get the whole bag of programs from Adobe. BTW, I am not a professional designer, but have some specific projects that require the power of Quark/InDesign. Mac OS X 10.5.6 Macbook Pro, Intel 2.4, 4 GB Quark 8 demo

    Hello,

It is not required to have Acrobat Pro in order to create the PDF from QuarkXPress. However, you may need the Acrobat in case you would like to view/open the PDF.

    I hope this information helps.

Thank you for the fast response. Yes, it does help. Two further questions: So I can't view the PDFs in Preview or Adobe reader, only Pro? Does that make a difference when sending the PDF to a print shop? I had used PDF files created using Papyrus (a book with black and white photos), and sent the PDFs to the printer. Worked well for that project.

Of course you can view the PDFs in Preview or Adobe Reader. You need Acrobat Pro if you want to edit a PDF or to examine and modify its details (color processing, profile converting and so on)

Preview doesn't always display the PDF properly, so watch it, if thats what your going to use. The free version of Acrobat Reader is a better option IMO.
