    Smart Quotes Preference???

    Hello -

It seems to me that in versions 4 and 5 of Quark, the "Smart Quotes" preference was document-specific.  I had a project I was doing the other day, and needed striaght "ditto" marks, so I turned off "Smart Quotes" in the preferences believing that to be true.

Well, today I notice that the preference now seems to be global.  So, what is one to do if you need just "ditto" marks in a project?  I already tried "Special Characters" with no luck, before turning off the "Smart Quote"...

With smart quotes turned on, I think pressing Control-Shift " will give an instance of straight quotes. With smart quotes off, I think various combinations of option and [ or ] (the bracket keys) will produce curly quotes.

You can temporarily override the current setting using the Control key. To quote from the help file:

On Mac OS, to type straight quotation marks (' and ") when Smart Quotes is enabled, press Control while typing the quotation characters. On Windows, to type straight quotation marks when Smart Quotes is enabled, press Ctrl+' for feet (') or Ctrl+Alt+' for inches (").

Excellent, who would have thought to look at the help file, and it be correct?

    Thanks again gentlemen!
