    printing to Adobe PDF creates no output

    We just received our Quark 8.02 upgrades. At the same time, I took the opportunity to do complete overhauls on the two stations using the new Quark, so they were completely erased, had Mac OS X 10.5.6 installed clean from scratch and then Quark 8.02 was installed, so these computers have no old versions of Quark installed. One station has Creative Suite 3 with Acrobat Pro 8.1.3 installed and the other has Creative Suite 3.3 with Acrobat Pro 9 installed. On both stations, if you print to the Adobe PDF print driver, everything appears to work fine but no output file is created. The Adobe PDF print driver works fine for all our other programs, so this problem is limited to Quark only. Yes, I know there is an export to PDF function in Quark 8 but we do not want to use that, as it does not pickup the custom-made Acrobat Distiller option sets we use. I've seen some reports of this problem elsewhere in the forum, but they're all from last year. Obviously this problem is still happening, even with the new version 8.02 update. Does anyone know how to get around this issue?

    Hi,

    To resolve this please follow the steps below:

    Download the following Cups filter and install it on the computer:

     http://www.quark.com/service/desktop/downloads/details.jsp?idx=714

     Once it is installed restart the computer.

     Once the computer is up in running try to print to PDF from Quark.

    Thanks for the quick feedback... I had this update back when I was running Quark 7 on my Mac. The CUPS update on the specified page says it's for Quark 7.3 -- is it also intended for Quark 8? Just want to be sure it's the right thing to install before I put it on my system. Thanks!

     This will work for both QuarkXPress 7.31/8.x

    Do let us know if you face any problems while installing the filter.

     I have the same problem with Quark 7.2 -- Using Mac OS 7.5.6 / Acrobat 8.1.6. Is there a fix?

    Hello,

     I would suggest you to update the application to 7.5 and install the CUPS filter as suggested in the previous thread.

     7.5 is available at:

    By the way, the CUPS patch is now included in the QuarkXPress 8.1 installer, so no need to apply it anymore if you have upgraded/updated to 8.1.

    I just updated my QXP to 8.1 and installed the CUPS and I still get no output. It looks like it is printing but then there is no file. I prefer to use "Print" and the Adobe PDF 9.0 PPD because it gives me smaller files. There seems to be no why to modify the output of the PDFs that come straight from the "Export" menu. Anyway, I was able to do this fine yesterday and now there's nothing. Very frustrating!!
