    V8 Crashes

I am finding V8 to be extremely UNSTABLE when dealing with web pages.  What I am finding is that you can create a web page for hours on end and everything is working fine.  Then if you close the file, you CANNOT reopen as V8 crashes when loading the file.  I even have saved the web file under a different name as a backup and it will NOT open.

The sad part about this is that it is happening all the time. At this time, I have no faith with V8.  I have sent files to Quark and they are saying that I am doing something to cause the crashes.  I am sorry but I can't see how this is happening when I am using their tools to import.  I have created massive number of web pages with V6.5 and NEVER had a problems that I am encountering with V8

Has anyone else been having similar problems?

    Thanks

    Dear Philip,

May I know if you are using v8.0 or 8.02?

In case you are using 8.0,please update the version of QuarkXPress to 8.02.

    I hope this information helps.

    Preeti,

I have updated to 8.02.  You can speak with JD as he has worked with me in the past with the problem.  Quark cannot give me reasons why this is happening....I have stopped using V8 until there is some sort of fix.  I cannot afford to work hours and then have V8 not allow me to open a file that has worked.

    Re: V8 Crashes

    Preeti,

I have been in contact with Ratan at Quark and he asked me to do 3 things and I have only done #1 so far. Here are the results

    1.         Create a new folder called “Preferences” in the location
                           C:\Program Files\Quark\QuarkXPress 8
And then launch QuarkXPress (if this not work please follow the following steps)

I was able to load V8 after creating the PREFERENCES folder.  I checked the new preferences folder and it was full of files.  However, my qxp doc still would NOT load, V8 would crash.  After closing V8 and then attempting to reload, V8 it would crash during the load.  I went back and deleted the PREFERENCES folder and V8 will now load but still have the problem of my qxp files crashing when loading.

                2.                  Create a New user on windows  (have not tried yet)

    3.                  Install QuarkXPress on new machine  (have not tried yet)

    Re: V8 Crashes

I have had exactly the same problems on numerous occasions. It seems I'm able to get so far and then all hell breaks loose and I can't open the file again. I'm using a brand new MacPro, latest version of Quark 8 and have loads of ram installed. Now all I do is to set up the basic look for one page in Quark and then work on it in Dreamweaver - not ideal but at least all my work isn't wasted. If they could sort it out I'd use it much more - it's easy to use and the end result works well. Should we really be having these programming problems with a piece of software that's been around for so long? It all reminds me of CorelDraw when it tried to do too many things and failed at most.

    Re: V8 Crashes

I am so fed up with V8 I cannot see straight.  I NEVER had these problems with V6.5 and I created a bunch of webpages with NO PROBLEMS.  Interesting that you mentioned Dreamweaver, I just downloaded DW and Indesign trial versions because of the problems with V8.  I didn't want to do it but Quark is not finding answers to the crashes and you confirmed that it is not only me having the problem.

    Re: V8 Crashes

I never used 6.5 to create web pages so interesting that it's a new problem - I kind of thought it just was an unstable aspect of Quark but clearly they've added something that's caused these problems.  If you can get your head around Dreamweaver it's definately the way to go but the learning curve is steep!  that's why I thought I'd try Quark's web design facility - big mistake!  I've been with Quark since version 3 days but I'm getting increasingly frustrated that each new release generates more bugs and few benefits!

    Re: V8 Crashes

It is now the middle of July (almost 1/2 year later since the first post) and have been working with Quark on correcting the crash problems with NO LUCK....they are finding solutions to the crashes but V8 is still very UNSTABLE.  Mind you this is on the WEB side of the software.  I am very close to throwing V8 in the trash....sorry to vent my frustration here...

I might add that the Quark Tech Support has been very NICE to work with, they are trying their best.....
