Quark 6 won't select my printer

I have a Canon LBP5000 laser printer. It prints fine, but I have to go through a long winded 'Page set-up' every time. I also have to select where the paper is to come from on the canon printer - again EVERY time I want to print. The System Prefernces are correctly set, making the Canon the default, also the paper as A4. I downloaded the Canon Printer driver several times, at the behest of Canon Support (who are baffled). I have a new iMac8,1 OS10.5. On my old Mac there would be an extention for the printer, but there appears to be no printer extentions here whatosover. Could that be a clue? There is appears to be nothing in Quark Preferences to help either.

    Hello Stano,

The QuarkXPress version 6 or 6.x is not supported on Leopard (10.5)

The versions which is compatible and will run on leopard is QuarkXPress 7.5 or later.

You can also try the version 8.02 Evaluation version available at:

      http://8.quark.com/Downloads/Download.aspx

      I hope this information helps!

That explains it. Thank you. Alas, I don't use Quark enough to justify the expense of a leter version.

    Navpreet:

True. Quark is not supporting XPress 6.x on Leopard.

    Navpreet:

Not True. QuarkXPress 6.x WILL run on Leopard. Navpreet likes to repeat this line all the time, but Navpreet knows that it will run on Leopard. Navpreet just won't tell you that. Why I can never seem to figure out. That said, the problem is that XPress 6.x won't work very well on Leopard. You are going to get bugs and issues that are random and inconsistent. That's because XPress 6.x wasn't made for Leopard, but that does not mean it won't work on Leopard.

You might try using an Auxiliary PPD location. Tiger and earlier had the PPD's in the following directory:

    Macintosh HD>Library>Printers>PPDs>Contents>Resources>en.lproj

Leopard has it in Macintosh HD>Library>Printers>PPDs

Or you can just copy your PPDs into Leopard's location.

     Just an update:

Please copy the PPDs into the following location:

    Macintosh HD>Library>Printers>PPDs>Contents>Resources

This is default PPD location for Mac OS 10.5.x (Leopard)

Now click on Utilities > PPD Manager, and point the auxiliary folder to this location, click on update and try to print.
