I can't print to our Xerox other than by using the Generic Colour driver. I've updated the Xerox driver and have downloaded and installed the  the QXP Cups. No luck. Every other programme on my Mac is working fine and able to access all the printer features.

Can you help, please, as Quark is my main programme!

I'm seriously bored with having to export pdfs to be able to access the printer features.

 Julie, I don't have a Phaser, but have you might try updating to 7.5. It may help.

1) Make sure that the CUPS filter is properly installed. When running the installer, the box "install" has to be explicitely selected, otherwise it won't do anything.

2) Other thing to try: when using the Xerox PPD in the print menu, go into Printer..., then into Paper Handling, and tick the box "Scale to fit paper size". See if this allows you to print.

3) Final possibility: go into the Systems Settings > Print & Fax, select the Xerox printer, go into Options > Driver, and instead of the current driver, select "Generic PostScript Driver".

If nothing works, you may get in touch with our technical support for further troubleshooting.

Hi... with the help of your tech support people (which took us ages!), this is now solved.

For information (in case anyone else has this problem in the future); the CUPS filter was correctly installed, the problem was actually caused by the placement of the PPDs.

When I used the Quark PPD manager (using the 'Auxiliary Folder' > Browse), we couldn't actually locate the Xerox Phaser ppds, or any of the other ppds. They had actually been physically moved somehow (I hadn't moved them), out of the 'en.lproj' folder, where Quark was looking, back one level into the Resources folder (Macintosh HD > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources > [en.lproj] ).

Once I browsed to the Resources folder and updated the list of PPDs using the Auxiliary folder > browse, I was able to 'unclick' the PPDs I didn't want (tedious job, but only done once) and everything now works fine.

Alright, this indeed a preliminary step I forgot, making sure that the printer's PPD is available to Quark. However, rather than unselecting the ca. 999 PPDs that you don't need, it would be much quicker to:

1. create a custom folder

2. place there a copy of the PPD files that you use.

3. go under Utilities > PPD Manager, select that folder and mark it as "Auxiliary folder".
