Removing Red Question Mark Placeholders in Quark 8

Hi, I'm new to Quark 8, jumping from 6.5 to 8, a pretty large leap. I use XData to transfer files and data, however, now whenever there is a "missing link" (if you will) there is a giant red question mark. Which is helpful for visual purposes, but they do print. In order to save on ink and so I don't see these red half circles on my drafts, is there anyway to turn off those visual markers? Or to at least have them not print? Thanks so much.

     Sincerely....

    Alyson

Whether or not the contents of a picture box prints can be controlled from the Usage dialog box, by unchecking the "Print" check box--in QXP 6.52, anyway. This can also be controlled from the picture box's Modify dialog.

The big red question mark is brought to you by em software (maker of XData), I think, and not by Quark itself. If it impedes your workflow you might want to contact the maker, they have great customer service and are willing to listen to clients' needs.

Thanks for your help. I relayed this information to my boss, she apparently contacted the XData people, and sent along one of our templates, instead of answering or even addressing the question mark issue, they critiqued her template. Now, she changed it so that if there's no picture on file we get absolutely no picture box, which for our process and way of working through things makes the document a jumble of text mess. Does anyone have any more help or suggestions?  I'm going insane. We just made a jump from Quark ...5? I believe, to Quark 8 and we're not recieving any training. And we're too busy most of the time to just sit through tutorials, or rather, we would get behind in our work. Ughh. Thanks in advance everyone.

This post should really be in the XTensions forum, as basic Quark users will never have seen the BRQ!

You can switch off picture printing via the picture usage box, but that may be a pain if there are lots of missing pictures.

I recommend you go back to Emsoftware again and re-explain. Also, your boss should take on board any critique offered, as they are always helpful and have not done it to be annoying. The advice will be good. They may have misunderstood the question - be friendly, they are very nice people!

I know nothing about your workflow, but it occurs to me you could create a blank image with the correct name which you could overwrite with the correct image when you get it. That way XData would happily place a blank and think it had found it, and then no question mark.
