I have been using QuarkExpress 4  for years without any problem. I have now changed my computer and find that when opening QuarkExpress I get the mesage " This version of QuarkExpress cannot be used with this keyboard"  I cannot plug in my old keyboard because the plug is different. What type of keyboard do I need? or is there a fix? O.S. Windows XP Professional. Tried it on my laptop Toshiba Satellite, same result.

 I believe this error has more to do with your settings in Control Panels versus the actual physical keyboar. Find the setting for your keyboard in the Control Panels and make sure it is set to US English. Then try again.

Thank you. I was changing the language via the Language Bar Button, but now I have set the language in the control panel to US English it works fine with the Spanish keyboard and with the language button set to Spanish. Thanks again.

I am having this same problem, but this solution is not working. Any other ideas that would help me out. Thanks ahead of time.

Did your problem just start or has it always been this way? 

I have just started to use the program. It was my first time trying to use QuarkXPress.

Ok Sean. Do you have the standard version of XPress or do you have Passport. And if it's the standard version of XPress is it a US copy or a version outside of the US? 

Standard. It says The U.S version of QuarkXPress will only run under the U.S. English System Language, on the side of the box.

 oddly enough, i am having the same problem. i hope you can help. i am using quark 4.1 on windows xp sp3. quark has always worked until one of our software vendors did a webex into my system to look at a problem we were having with their application. not sure if that had anything to do with it or not. 

i did check my language setting and keyboard setting and they are all set to US english. funny thing is that if i log off and log back onto my machine as another user (say admin). it works fine with the same settings. odd.

is there something particular to my user that would make it think the keyboard setting is something other that what it says in control panel?

i hope someone can help. i have tried everything i can think of and keep running into a brick wall.

In general XPress 4 needs an admin user account. I'm surprised it was working before if your account is not an admin account. 

 yeah, my account is an admin account on the machine as well. since i posted the message i have gone thru all the registry keys and they all look to have the correct settings as well. very strange...

 also, i have checked the settings on some other machines here and they all seem to be the same as well. are there user account files used somewhere. maybe i can copy and replace from a user i know works?

OK then. What's the exact error message you're getting? 

 error says "This version of QuarkXPress can not be used with this keyboar. [86]"
