In Leopard why does Quark throw an extra page with Error: Undefined Offending Command

Just upgraded to Mac Leopard and after every print job on the HP Laserjet 1320n, an extra page is printed with:

    Error: undefined

    OFFENDING COMMAND:

    STACK:

I used to get this message when printing from a PC. Could it be related top Boot Camp?

    Cheers!

Also with the Epson Colour printer R285 everything comes out at 50%.

    Only in Quark 7.5

Does anyone at Quark actually read these posts? Why should I upgrade to 8 when 7.5 doesn't work properly yet?

Here are a few steps that you can try:

    - In the print window, under PPD, select either your Epson driver, or the Generic Colour, and see if this makes a difference.

    - Go into the OSX Sytem Preferences, Print & Fax, select your Epson, click on Options & Supplies, and under Drivers, select Generic PostScript Printer. See if this solves the problems.

    - In the print window, go into the option Pictures > Data, and try out the different values, for instance changing it from Binary to ASCII.

    - In the print window, click the Printers... button, go into the tab Paper Handling, and tick the option "Adjust to paper size".

Let us know if any of those steps makes a difference. Also please clarify this: "only in Quark 7.5", does this imply it works in other versions of Quark? Which versions? On the same computer? And when you say "comes out at 50%", do you mean 50% size, or 50% color density?

Thanks Manuel. The 50% size problem had no PPD option in Quark (greyed out) so I re-installed and that worked for my colour printer problem. However the original post about my HP Laserjet 1320n printing an extra page with every print run still has that problem. Any suggestions please for that? Thanks Kryten.

Please try to print a newly created file that only contains text, no pictures. Does the extra page still print with that?

Let's then do the following test:

    1) Go into the print menu, make sure that you select the PPD of your HP printer, click on the "printers..." button, and then select "Save as PostScript" in the bottom left menu. Save that .ps file, for example on your desktop.

    2) Open the printer queue, by going into System Preferences > Print & Fax and double clicking your printer. Now send the PostScript file to the printer, by simply dragging the file from the desktop into the lower part of the printer's window.

The project should now print. If you still obtain the error page, then we can assume there is an error with the PPD and you should reinstall that printer (and check if there is a newer driver available). If this prints ok, but the problem persists when printing from QuarkXPress, then you should directly contact our technical support for in-depth troubleshooting.

    Thanks Manuel.

Printing that way worked and didn't produce the error page. But can I get Quark to print like this without producing a .ps file first and dragging it into the Print Queue?

Obviously as Quark is able to produce a correct postscript that your printer can process, it has to work. A few ideas:

    1) apply the general #1 troubleshooting step of resetting the Quark preferences - that is, go into Macintosh HD/Users/(your user)/Library/Preferences/Quark and rename your QuarkXPress 7.0 folder to QuarkXPress_something else. Relaunch QuarkXPress and try again.

    2) make a complete clean and fresh reinstall of QuarkXPress 7.5, using that installer.

    3) get a copy of Finnegans Wake and have a good read. After reaching page 383, relaunch QuarkXPress and try again.

Well...point 1 didn't work. Point 2...if that's the only solution, it won't be happening anytime soon..what a total pain. Point 3...are there any pictures in it?

Re: In Leopard why does Quark throw an extra page with Error: Undefined Offending Command

I've resurrected this post as I have had to re-install Quark and done all the updates. It is also running on a clean installation of Leopard and I still get this extra page with every Print command.

What else is there to do?

    Fresh installation of Quark.

    Fresh installation of Leopard

    Printer drivers up to date

Upgrade to 8?....erm let me think
