Unrelated file keeps reopening on save (Quark 6.1)

    Hi,

I'm running Quark 6.1 on MacOS 10.3.9 and experiencing some really annoying behaviour.

I opened a document X, deleted everything in it except the master pages, and resaved it as document Y. Now I'm writing document Y. The annoying behaviour is as follows: EVERY TIME I save document Y, Quark has to reopen document X (or bring it to the front if it's already open). When I save Y, Quark also complains that document X has unavailable fonts, even though Y doesn't use these fonts.

I'm one of those paranoid users who saves a document every two minutes or so. This behaviour is driving me crazy: I keep seeing document X popping up every time I save. What is going on? Why are these documents so mysteriously linked?

I should add that I tried wiping document X from my system: now I get a File not found error message every time I save Y. I've also ripped out the Quark preferences. And this is a recent thing: I've been using Quark on this machine for years without this problem.

    Thanks for any help,

    Zoe

You've largely answered your own question

Try starting a new document from scratch, and copy (or set up) your master pages in it. Something is still linking the two earlier versions

I did try this but the behaviour bizarrely persisted, as if it was Quark itself having the problem, not the file. I also got erratic behaviour after I deleted file X and then put it back: saving file Y went smoothly for a while, then file X started opening again.

    Am I going mad?

I'll try rewriting the master page again though, and post again if nothing changes. Thanks!

I had some erratic behavior from a Quark file once when using a similar version on similar OS and in the end I tracked it down to the Dejavu.xnt each time I opened a specific Quark file Photoshop would open the same image over and over. After disabling this XT in the manager the problem went. I just used the OS's recent items from then on instead.

I turned off the Dejavu.xnt extension and things seem to be fine. Haven't seen document X pop up, and all the mysterious font problems have disappeared. Thanks!
