    No warning message when saving

When saving quark files into location where another with the same name already exists there's no warning message about "file already exists do you want to replace it?" This happens both locally and across our network.

Has this happened to anyone or has got any suggestions?

    Intel Mac OS X 10.5.6

    Quark 7.5, 7.3.1, and 7.3

    Windows Server 2008

Have recently had server upgrade and are now having to use smb protocol which has caused problems, but would have thought that this shouldn't be an issue because it happens locally on the mac.

    Hi!

The issue you have been facing is known to us.

Its is on the leopard systems (10.5.x) that Quark would not throw any warning for the already existing documents with the same name and will overwrite the existing document.

Workaround will be to save the file at a different location or a new folder and then decide if you would like to replace the old file with the new file.

Please try the Evaluation version of QuarkXPress 8 availabe at http://8.quark.com/Downloads/Login.aspx

It will run as full version for 60 days later you can convert it to Full version when you buy it.

It works in QuarkXPress 8 perfectly.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks

This issue has known to Quark tech for YEARS, literally. It was left out of the 7.5 update and was scheduled for a maintenance release that never happened. So the fix is to get a pay upgrade? Nice. You guys realize that ID comes with CS suite and is still gaining ground right?

Guess what, it works great in your competitors application too. What's your point.

Re: No warning message when saving

Been operating Quark using a Mac on 10.4.11 for years...

This problem doesn't happen on Quark 8, and it never happened on our old Quark 6.5.2, so was it something which only affected Quark 7?

Doesn't happen here even in Quark 7.5, OS X 10.4.11. Try to over-save, Quark asks if I'm sure. Never had problems with this in 6, 7 or 8??

(edit) - just realised it's only a prob with Q7 on Leopard, hence no problems here. How can it have been known for years - how long has Leopard been out?

The answer seems to be 18months

According to Wikipedia:- Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard" was released on October 26, 2007.

o.k. 18 months. point being; known issue. serious issue. Missed in the last maintence update, promised to be in the next (I have the email to back up that statement). And now the answer is: Buy the updated software. Nice business model.
