GHOST TINT BOX cannot be selected

Very strange tint box (appears to be a drop shadow) in my document that I cannot select.  Not a locked layer.  Not on a master page.  May have been created in Quark 4.  Tried opening document and saving back to 4.  Still cannot click on this box.  It does not display any frame or holding box.  It's just a ghosted image.  If I print to a laser printer, it appears.  If I Export to PDF, it appears in file as a graphic that I can open it with the Touch Up Object tool in Pitstop. Any ideas?

I had something similar back when I was using XPress 4. Does anything for this box appear in Usage? If so, what you can do is go to Usage, click on the "image" that is shown for this box and then click "Show." That will force XPress to select the box. Then delete the box.

    Hope that helps.

Nothing shows in usage on the page.  If I select all and then delete everything, I am left with the tinted box.  I guess to work around it, we copied all elements to a new page in the doc.  It's just bugging me to figure out how to select it.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't know if this will work or not, but you could try downsaving and then reopening and resaving the downsaved document.

Oh well.  No luck.  We are thinking it might have been selected in Quark 7 and copied/pasted into a Quark 6x doc.

Spoke to our operator here and he told me the workaround was to re-create it in Quark 7.  It was just one of those puzzling issues.

Re: GHOST TINT BOX cannot be selected

     Thumbnail drag:

    1. Create new document with same dimensions as your source document. Only one page.

    2. Open Source document and change view to Thumbnails.

    3. Change view of new document to Thumbnails.

    4. Position both documents so you can see both of them.

    5. Select pages from source document by clicking then shift+clicing on them.

    6. Drag selected pages in to new document and position them close to the single page document and then relase.

    7. Delete the first page.

You will know you have gotten the pages in to the new document when they "snap" to the first page.
