Exporting to PDF from Quark 8 (do I need to buy Acrobat?)

    Hello Guys,

I am currently using Quark 5.1 and I have Acrobat 4. I have done some tests with my new printers and when placing Half page PDF adverts onto the page the new Print Ready PDF seems to be missing elements of the advert (on some adverts it will not distill at all).

The printer has suggested upgrading to Quark 8.0 to hopefully solve these issue.

My question is does Quark 8 need a new version of Acrobat to produce the PDFs? Or does Quark 8 have it own PDF software these days?

     Thanks, Rob

If you intend on working with PDF files run as far as you can from Quark Xpress. As it's still postscript based, it can't handle any PDF that contains transparency without flattening them. The flattening process can really make a mess of a PDF file, causing object to drop out or to get buried. Also not being an Adobe application and being that they are to cheap to pay Adobe for the rights to use PDF trap engine to export and import PDF files I can't see this ever being fixed.

    Hi,

QuarkXPress 8.x has its own PDF engine to create PDFs.

Its not mandatory to install Acrobat to create PDFs as in case of QuarkXPress 5.x

From QuarkXPress 6.x, QuarkXPress has its own PDF engine to create PDFs.

You can download evaluation version of QuarkXPress 8.x and try it for 60 days

    I hope this information helps

    Regards,
