    QuarkXpress vs InDesign

Having been a user of QuarkXpress for the last 15 years or so, I was rather reluctant to use InDesign but I have found it a rather useful application. So going back to QuarkXpress I thought it would be easy. How wrong was I! I find the latest version of QuarkXpress extremely backward compared to InDesign. Stupid things like linking text boxes, the annoying way the cursor changes when you are near to the edge of a text frame! I never thought I would say this, but I’m glad to be using InDesign, it is far more user friendly. All the your window menus are collapseable and easily accessible. Style sheets are far more superior. Image linkages are so better in that it goes straight to the application the images are created in. I am in no rush to use QuarkXpress 8 again!

I find it highly annoying that just because I click on a frame (image or text) in ID, the program automatically assumes I want to enter content when what I usually want to do is move the frame. So, I go to select a text frame to move it and find out that now I'm selecting text. WTF. I didn't tell ID that I wanted to switch from the Selection Tool to the Text Tool, but guess what. It did it for me. If I wanted that, I would have selected the dang Text Tool myself!

Ah, bummer. This appears to be a CS5 feature. I'm using CS4.

Text boxes in InDesign have to be linked too. How are InDesign style sheets "far" more superior? "I am in no rush to use QuarkXpress 8 again!" Apparently, you're not in a rush to get your job done, either.
