after using the atrocity that is fireworks for "web design" (slow, buggy = horrible for creativity) i thought, maybe this new and improved quarkxpress 8 has something.
so, within 3 seconds of trying it out, i think sadly, though - the must penultimate of basic needs of a web design - the 1 pixel line - doesnt work!? i dont want a slightly fuzzy one pixel line - just a pure and simple 1px line.
however, even in adobe illustrator, this is horribly painful to achieve (i have to manually move a 1 px line .5 px down - and after that, snap to pixel keeps moving it back... useless).
as a professional, if quark wants to jump ahead here - i suggest focusing on making webpage DESIGN easy for DESIGNERS... i have no intention of EVER learning how to code webpages at a professional level. there are thousands of non-designers that do that exceptionally well, and for cheap sometimes. what i need is a creative tool that i can create in, but in the end have a pixel accurate tight design (with the "wow" of how rollovers work) to hand off to coders after a client signs off.
quarkxpress has all the things that would make designing a full site nice - reusable elements, typography, etc etc - everything that makes designing a book right works for good web design as well. i dont understand why no company can get a web design tool right? oh well... maybe in another 5 years :-( ... oops, my 1px line dream became a rant there, didnt it? yikes... haha.
