    Strange bar across some pictures

We are experiencing problems with some pictures we use in our magazine. We process all items in Photoshop CS2 and save mostly as .tiff files. We do import some pdf's and eps files.

    The picture at <a href="http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh111/monaco820/?action=view&current=DSC00753.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh111/monaco820/DSC00753.jpg" border="0" alt="Band across the picture"></a> shows the problem

The picture did not have the band across it when we processed it in Photoshop. We found the problem after making a .ps file in QX 7.31 windows and then distilling in Distiller.

The work around is to process the picture again and import into QX again. This usually works the majority of the time. Our main printing company does not know what the cause is and I have searched many hours to find a cure.

Have you all ever seen this? We have sent files to both QuarkXpress and Adobe.

    Thanks.

I would analyze which kind of tiff files are responsible for this problem. If you recieve third party files from different companies it is always a good idea to resave the files. I made some PS scripts for automatic resaving files from third parties. There are a lot of options available when you save tiff in Photoshop. Eg. compression types, pixelsequence, bytesequence and some more strange possibilities. Try some tests to find out which works best. I use Compression: none, Interleaved (RGBRGB), Bytesequence Macintosh (i am on a mac but this works for PC also). Let us know if this helps.

Thanks. These are all pictures that I took. Some have the problem and some do not. I use the same PS savings as you except my byte sequence is PC.

I have since set up Distiller in another folder using the in and out function. This has helped. I distilled 6 magazine pages earlier this week and did not have the problem.
